Debutants Fairfirst Insurance, CL Synergy bag major honours at MCA Super Premier League 2023

Debutants, CL Synergy covered themselves with glory when they bagged a double at the 30th Singer –MCA Super Premier League 2023 which came to a conclusion with the T+20 Final and the post tournament awards presentation held on Wednesday, 24 May at the MCA Grounds. 

CL Synergy who earlier shared the knock out tournament title with Hayleys Group, won the T+20 Final quite convincingly by five wickets over Hayleys Group.

Fairfirst Insurance won the League Title.

At the T+20 final, Hayleys Group sent in to bat, was restricted to 138 for 7 by CL Synergy, medium pacers, Isuru Udana (4-11-1), Promod Madushan (4-34-3) and Udith Madushan (4-40-2). 

As the Hayleys strong top order batting of Avishka Fernando (02), Ron Chandraguptha (10) TM Sampath (11) and Nawadidu Fernando (13) fell by the wayside, Santhush Gunatillake (52 not out in 40 balls, inclusive of 04 sixes), held the middle with the assistance of Vishad Randika (15) and Ashen Bandara (15).

CL Synergy, chasing 139 runs in 20 overs, reached their target comfortably in 17.3 overs, riding on two fine batting performances by opener, Navod Paranavitana (35 in 22 balls, inclusive of 2 sixes and 3 fours) and man of the match, batting at No. 5 Priyamal Perera (48 in 35 balls, inclusive of 4 sixes and 2 fours).

The Match Referee cum Adjudicator was Ravi Punchihewa. 

Special awards for all three segments.

“League”:

“Knock – Out”: 

As the final between Hayleys Group and CL Synergy was abandoned without a ball being bowled the single award for the Man of the Match was not presented.

•  Best Bowler/ Muditha Lakshan from CDB Finance (02 matches, 48 runs, 06 wickets, Best 4/23 Vs. Fairfirst Insurance)
•  Best Batsman: Avishka Fernando from Hayleys Group (03 innings, 143 runs, Best 83 vs. John Keells)
•  Man of the Final: Priyamal Perera from CL Synergy (48 runs in 35 balls, inclusive of 04 sixes and 02 fours Vs. Hayleys)

Kanishka (Guest of Honour) ; and MCA Officials, President Nalin Wickramasinghe, Vice President Sirosha Gunatillake, General Secretary Tarindra Kaluperuma and Tournament Committee Chairman Lakmal de Silva.
