Derrick and Ahalya shine at Donald Steel Tournament

The picturesque surroundings of the Victoria Golf Resort (VGR) provided the perfect backdrop for the Board event, Donald Steel Tournament (DST) 2024 which was worked off with a record number of over 120 entries last weekend. Former Royalist Derrick Ponnambalam won the Donald Steel Trophy while Ahalya Rajan won the Ladies event for Pam Fernando Trophy at Rajawella. The much looked forward event DST had its inception dating back to 1999.

Derrick Ponnambalam, whose exceptional skill and determination propelled him to the title of overall winner of the Donald Steel tournament. Ponnambalam’s achievement is a testament to his dedication and proficiency in the sport, undoubtedly earning him well-deserved recognition playing some extraordinary golf at his home course. This event was won in tandem for the last 2 years by the youngster Kumar Danushan.

Experienced Ahalya Rajan too left an indelible mark, claiming the Pam Fernando trophy with her outstanding performance, undoubtedly earning the admiration of fellow competitors and spectators alike.Pravina Dunuwila emerged victorious, clinching the esteemed Victoria Bowl. K. Wigneswaran demonstrated exemplary golf to secure the prestigious Ebert Pot, further adding to the excitement of the tournament.
