  • Dialog Enterprise takes on title sponsor role in a unique golfing event organised by the Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan in aid of community service projects

The Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan in partnership with Dialog Enterprise, the corporate solutions arm of Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka’s premier connectivity provider, will present the Dialog Enterprise Metro Texas Scramble on Saturday, 13 November.

The Texas Scramble format will be a team-based competitive day of golfing for the members of the Royal Colombo Golf Club, with the golfers set to tee-off at 7 a.m. and 12 noon. Each team consists of either four or five players.

A scramble is one of the most common formats for golf tournaments. The Dialog Enterprise Metro Texas Scramble will be played by a team of four players. Where each player hits their ball throughout the match. The team captains then choose the best shot from the team and use the same spot for each player for their next shots. This process continues until all 18 holes are completed. This tournament presents a challenging yet fun outing for the players. All competitors and guests can rest assured that all current health regulations will be followed and strictly adhered to throughout the day.

The Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan hosts golf tournaments as a part of their annual fundraising calendar with the objective of collecting funds for multiple community development projects initiated, monitored and managed by the Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan. In the same way, the constant generous support of stakeholders like Dialog Enterprise reiterates their commitment to the advancement of the sport in Sri Lanka, while also enriching underprivileged people and local communities.

The Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan (RCCM) President Gerald De Saram said: “We are very happy to partner with our title sponsor Dialog Enterprise once again. This year’s event is the first time we have organised a team-based golf tournament. This is the sixth golf event organised by the Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan but none of those will have been possible without the steadfast and generous support of our stakeholders, like Dialog Enterprise and our other sponsors. Together we have been able to sustain and support efforts to enrich and empower the underprivileged.”

“The theme for our club this year is ‘building for the future – stand tall,’ and that is what we aim to do. We believe our task is to give people the strength and capability to move from being dependant to become self-sustaining. Charity, however generous it is, tends to keep people poor so our focus is on helping people rise out of poverty and the need for charity and to become self-supporting with self-respect. In other words, to ‘stand tall’ on their own and with dignity. Funds collected from the previous year’s events were used to fund heart surgeries for children with congenital heart diseases and we aim to double that number this year. It is a challenging task in the present economy, but we believe that we can do it with the generous and constant support of our corporate and private stakeholders like Dialog Enterprise.”

Other projects by RCCM include the building of Sri Lanka’s first child-friendly Police station in Ragama to assist the Police to investigate cases of child abuse in a child friendly environment. The club continues to maintain this building, one that now also houses a video evidence recording facility, to-date. Other projects include on-going support for Meth Sewa and Sith Sevana, two care facilities for children who are severely mentally and physically challenged; the Sunshine Games, a sports meet and carnival for over 800 differently abled children from all around Sri Lanka; and Little Minds Strong Values, a project led by singer and songwriter Rukshan Perera that uses music as a means to develop strong positive social values in children.

Dialog Axiata Vice President of Enterprise Business and Large Enterprise Sales Navin Peiris said: “We are privileged to partner with the Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan for the fourth consecutive edition of this momentous golfing encounter as its title sponsor. As a responsible corporate we have stepped into sponsor this prestigious tournament which is played in the best spirit of the game, in order to assist and uplift marginalised communities and children. Dialog Enterprise has been a continuous supporter in the development of golf over the years, by sponsoring golf clubs, tournaments, promoting golf amongst school children and sponsoring leading golfers from Sri Lanka, amongst other efforts. We are delighted to be associated with this tourney and look forward to an exciting day of golf.”  WIDAC Commercial Interiors Chairman Primal Wijayanayake, speaking of the event, said: “WIDAC has over the past six years supported the RCCM golf tournament and are very pleased to do so again. This year we aim to support the ‘Two Hearts’ project where we have committed to fund congenital heart surgeries for 10 children with our sponsorship commitment.”

The gold sponsor for the event is WIDAC, the silver sponsor is M Power Capital, and other partners for the event include Hatch, Wurth, hSenidBiz, Chatam Luxury Watches, Park Street Gourmet and the Favourite Group.

The Dialog Enterprise Metro Texas Scramble will be held on Saturday, 13 November, and is set to be a memorable day of top quality golf, while raising funds for charity.
