Antonian player on attacking way

St. Joseph’s College pulled off a good 34 points (5 tries, 3 conversions, 1 penalty) to 14 points (2 tries, 2 penalties) win over the Antonians in their Under-20 President Trophy Knockout rugby encounter which was worked off at the Royal Sports Complex yesterday.
At the short breather winners led 26/7.
Joes dominated in the early half of the encounter but the Antonians who played well in patches made some handling errors which were costly. They did settle well in the later half and looked a threating outfit. They lacked the finishing touches for majority of their fine moves.
Naveen Marasinghe and Deshan Tharuka played well for the Joes while Maliksha Perera who had a grand outing for the Antonians scoring both tries along with their place kicker Sahan Keerthisinghe who too was outstanding.
For Joes Naveen Marasinghe, Deshan Tharuka (2), Sachintha Vidyana, Randiha Dananjaya scored the tries while three conversions and a penalty were put over by Dihara Subash. For the Antonians, Maliksha Perera scored both the tries while Sahan Keerthisinghe was on target on both occasions. One of the Joes try was questionable one as it appeared that Antonian defender touched it down before the try was scored. After the consultation with the Assistant referee try was awarded.
Referee was Dilum Deeshana.
Wesley beat Science College by 38 points (6 tries, 4 conversions) to nil at Havelock Park yesterday.
At the short breather Wesley led 5/0.
Isipathana will meet S. Thomas’ College on 2 September while Wesley will take on Joes on 4 September. Both games will be at Havelock Park. (SJ)
