Trinity hand off Sumangala

Trinity College played some quality running rugby in the initial half to set up a huge 49 points (9 tries, 2 conversions) to 14 points (1 try, 3 penalties) win over Sri Sumangala in their Schools Under 19 Rugby League encounter which concluded at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy yesterday.

At the short breather, Trinity led 32/5.

Trinity planted six tries in the initial half but in the later half, through some handling errors, could touch down only thrice. Ravin Illangarathne, Dehan Watagoda, and Murad Raizan played well for the Lions.

Sumangala, who defended most of the initial half, played well in the second half though conceding 17 points, and were able to score nine points through three penalties.

Trinity drew first blood in the first minute of the game through a powerful move which ended in a Dinusha Peiris try. Trinity touched down their second try through Murad Raizan, who ran down in the left corner flag with electrifying speed. Udeesha Ratnayake touched down the third try which was goaled by Yevan Hulangamuwa. Trinity scored three more tries through Usman Shafraz, Murad Raizan, and Yehvan Hulangamuwa.

Sumangala scored their solitary try through Shashika Bandara.

After the turnaround, Sumangala put over three penalties by Nazar Adhil, while Trinity scored tries through Thisanga Dissanayake, Shan Althaf, and Ramindu Wanasinghe.

Kicking by the Lions were below standard as only two conversions were taken accurately from nine tries scored.

S. Thomas’ edge out Science

S. Thomas’ College edged out Science College 30/26 in their Dialog Schools Under 19 Rugby League encounter which concluded at Ratmalana yesterday.

At the short breather, winners led 13/7.

Isipathana in convincing win against Dharmaraja

Isipathana College continued their supreme form in their encounter against Dharmaraja College 46/8 at Havelock Park on Saturday.

At the short breather, lads from Havelock Town led 31/3.

Green Shirts maturing in tandem with the season’s progress could see them getting to top gear at the correct time. This was their third win and second bonus point win in the Dialog Inter-Club Rugby League Tournament 2024.

Royal beat Zahira

Royal College too continued their unbeaten form when they got the better of Zahira 34/7 at Maradana.

Reid Avenue Boys were in complete control though Zahira made some bold moves. Royal forwards look formidable this season with Ayyash Shiyam having a grand game. Royal completed the win by scoring five tries while Zahira replied with one.

Joes outclass Thurstan

The newly promoted team to top division rugby, Thurstan suffered yet another heavy defeat when they were handed off by Joes 47/9 at Ratmalana.

Joes led 12/6 at the short breather.

Joes, after scoring two tries in the initial half, ran away with four more tries to demolish Thurstan who could account for only three penalties in the whole game.

Unimpressive win by Peterites against Wesley

Defending champions St. Peter’s too continued their winning and unbeaten form, but far from superior when they outplayed Wesley 25/10 at Bambalapitiya.

At the short breather, the home team led 12/10.

In the second half, Peterites ran in another two more tries to win the game through bonus point.
