Dialog Axiata PLC stepping up to its national commitment of empowering Sri Lanka sports has once again come forward to power the National Men’s Volleyball Team, who will take part in the highly anticipated Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship 2023 which is scheduled to take place in Chinese Taipei from 8 to 16 July with the participation of 17 countries from the region.
Sri Lanka will compete in Group F alongside Indonesia and Bahrain. The team’s first match is scheduled for 8 July against Indonesia, followed by a match against Bahrain on 9 July. Stepping into the role of team captain is the experienced and talented spiker, Deepthi Romesh, whose leadership and expertise are expected to inspire the team to new heights.
This tournament marks only the second time Sri Lanka has participated, with their debut appearance occurring in 2018. Originally to be hosted by Kyrgyzstan in 2020, the tournament was unfortunately postponed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament eventually took place in 2022, with the participation of only three countries - Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia. Consequently, this year’s championship holds great significance as Sri Lanka returns to compete for the second time.
Joining Sri Lanka in this highly anticipated tournament are renowned teams from countries such as Chinese Taipei, Australia, Bahrain, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Macau, Mongolia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam. The fierce competition and diverse talent on display promise an exhilarating experience for volleyball enthusiasts and fans alike.
