Dias’ century helps Allianz Insurance beat Standard Chartered in MCA “E” Division

Veteran war horse Ranga Dias scored a belligerent century for Allianz Insurance, as they thrashed Standard Chartered Bank by 184-runs in the 18th “DPGC” Challenge Trophy MCA “E” Division 25 Over League Tournament 2020, continued from where it stopped on 14 March last weekend i.e. 15-16 August.

Dias, who hit 102 runs in just 37 balls, which included 11 massive sixes and 5 sizzling fours, was associated in a 152 runs 4th wicket stand in 61 balls with Sameera Fernando (74 in 41 balls, 6 sixes and 5 fours) to post the highest team total in the tournament – 282 for 7 in 24 overs; this surpassed the previous total of 245 for 5 in 25 over, also held by them vs. Amãna Bank. 

The bowling spotlight fell on Anjana Wediwardena from Akbar Bros who had incredible figures of 3.5 – 16 – 6 wickets. Including a hat trick against Fairfirst Insurance. 

HSBC “A” scored back to back wins, beating Softlogic Finance by 7 wickets on Saturday and inflicted the first defeat on unbeaten Akbar Bros. by 5 wickets on the next day; Akbar Bros lost after 4 wins in a row.

Virtusa lost their unbeaten status when they lost to Amãna Bank by 3 wickets on Saturday but made amends the next day, beating LOLC by 6 wickets. 

Now the top 16 teams from the 4 groups will advance to the elimination round, commencing this weekend, 22-23 August.
