Former Cambrian and highly regarded senior referee Dinka Peiris has decided to call it a day. He will officiate his very last game when St Peter’s College lock horns with Wesley College in the Milo President Trophy final, which will take place at the Royal Sports Complex on 20 July.
Dinka, who has handled the whistle for 2 decades, played cricket for Prince of Wales College and Club Cricket for Catamarans SC, and later played and captained in Mercantile Cricket. He is also the longest service secretary of the Referees Society, where he will complete 9 years.
His first A division school match was Mahanama vs. Vidyartha 2001, first club match being Old Zahira Sports Club vs. CH & FC in 2004.
Dinka was fortunate to officiate in the Cobra Tens (Malaysia), Dubai Sevens, and Singapore Saints Sevens. Dinka was accredited with Level 3 in 2013, and 5 years later got through Level 1 in World Rugby Coaching of Match Officials. He has handled the whistle at the Blue ribbon schools rugby between Trinity and Royal on 4 occasions.
After calling it a day in refereeing, Dinka will take over World Rugby Coaching of Match Officials. He is employed at Expolanka, and is the father of former Thomian cricket skipper, Dellon Peiris, who led the Thomian outfit in 2017/2018. (SJ)
