Doctors defeated Lawyers by 30 runs to win the inaugural Law – Medical Masters Cricket encounter played at the LRDC ground Nawala on Sunday.

Electing to bat first, Doctors powered by a half century by T. Gowribahan and almost a run a ball 48 by Rajiv Nirmalasingham and 35 from skipper Channa Yahathugoda posted 219/9 in their 40 overs. Kamal Jayathilake was the pick of the bowlers with a four wicket haul.

In the chase, Thusith Paliwatta got off to an explosive start smashing 25 off 12 balls before Rusiru Jayathilake had him caught in the third over of the innings. The Doctors managed to keep the run rate in check while claiming wickets at regular intervals but Sumudu Liyanarachchi coming in at number 8 gave the Lawyers innings some respect scoring a brisk 42 off 32 balls.
