The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka in conjunction with the IOC invited Dr. Borja Garcia Senior Lecturer in Sport Management and Policy at Loughborough University, United Kingdom for a talk on ‘Good Governance in Sport: Why do we need it’ at Hemasiri Fernando Auditorium, on Thursday.
Dr. Borja Garcia joined the School of Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences in January 2009 as a Lecturer in Sport Management and Policy. He holds a PhD in Politics, International Relations and European Studies from Loughborough University (United Kingdom), where he completed his thesis titled ‘The European Union and the Governance of Football: A game of levels and agendas’.
Prior to joining Loughborough, Dr. García graduated in European Political and Administrative Studies at the College of Europe (Bruges, Belgium) and he also completed an MA in European Politics at the University of Leeds (United Kingdom).
In both cases he undertook research on the European Union’s sports policy for his dissertations. Dr. Borja García is a founding member of the Association for the Study of Sport and the European Union.
Dr. Garcia during his lecture explained the Principles of Good Governance through Democracy, Transparency, Accountability, Integrity, Development and Solidarity and Responsible autonomy within the framework of law.
Subjects within the argument was ‘Why do we need good governance’ and its explanations through governance assessment tools, while explaining them in-depth.
