The prestigious Captains Cup 2024 at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) saw Dr. Praveena Dunuwille and Mangala Both secure the overall Nett wins for the Ladies and Gents segment at the Board event which took place at the RCGC Course recently.
One of the key highlights was the Best Nett Winners over the two-day event. Yeun Kook Chung emerged as the 1st Day Best Nett Winner with an impressive score of 63 Nett, setting a strong benchmark early on. However, Mangala Niyarepola stole the spotlight on the second day, posting a remarkable 61 Nett to claim the 2nd Day Best Nett Winner title.
In the Ladies Senior Division, Kalyani Ranasinghe delivered a strong performance to secure the Winners title with 70 Nett, while Myungock Jane Hong finished as the Runner-Up with 77 Nett. The Senior Division saw a closely contested battle, with Udaya Nawinnana edging out A. Thavaraj to claim the top spot with 72 Nett (B/B 9).
The Masters Division also provided a dramatic finish, as Milinda Ratnayake clinched victory with 68 Nett (B/B 9), narrowly surpassing Michael Beamish, who had the same score but fell short on the countback system.
As the competition intensified, the overall Captains Cup winners were decided. Anouk Chitty claimed the Overall Gross Winner (Ladies) title with a total score of 174 Gross (88 + 86). In the Overall Nett category (Ladies), Kaya Abhayaratne finished as the Runner-Up with 150 Nett (75 + 75), while Dr. Praveena Dunuwille secured the Overall Nett Winner (Ladies) title with 141 Nett (70 + 71).
In the Gents segment Reshan Algama won the Overall Gross Gents title with 140 Gross (72 + 68). The Overall Nett Runner-Up Gents award went to Tharanga Gunasekera, who posted 136 Nett (70 + 66). However, it was Mangala Niyarepola who stole the show, earning the Overall Nett Winner (Men’s) title with 136 Nett (75 + 61). His final round of 61 Nett was deemed the best card of the second day, showcasing his dominance.
RCGC Captain Amrith de Soysa delivered the welcome speech at the prize event which took place soon after the completion of the tournament.
