In order to boost tourism in Sri Lanka, the Eagles Citadel Golf Course, built to International standards at the Sigiriya Air Force Base, was officially inaugurated yesterday (17 January).
The ceremony was graced by Defence Secretary Retired Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha and held under the chairmanship of Air Force Commander Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa.
Situated in the iconic Sigiriya region, renowned as a haven for both domestic and international tourists, this state-of-the-art golf course has been meticulously designed to blend seamlessly with the area’s natural beauty. Enhancements such as Island T and Island Bay have been introduced within the course to further enrich the experience for visitors and players alike.
The Eagles Citadel Golf Course marks the fourth international-standard facility established by the Sri Lanka Air Force, joining the ranks of similar courses at the Chinabay, Anuradhapura and Koggala Air Force Base.
This new addition not only elevates the Sigiriya region as a premier destination for golf tourism but also contributes to Sri Lanka’s growing reputation as a hub for international-standard sporting in the country.
Meanwhile the 12th Commanders Cup will tee off today (18 January) at China Bay with over 120 golfers inclusive of 20 overseas participants as well.
