Sri Lankan Golf Ranking Tournament, the selection trials for the Juniors to play in Thailand and Malaysia teed off in style at the Royal Colombo Golf Course (RCGC), drawing the participation of both seasoned professionals and talented young amateurs.
The tournament also featured the presence of Sri Lanka’s representative for the Asian Games, creating an exciting blend of experience and youthful energy on the greens.
On the opening day of the competition, it was the professionals who made their presence felt. K. Prabagaran set the pace with an impressive 68, carding a three-under-par round. Following closely behind was Anura Rohana, who posted a score of 69. N. Thangara rounded up the top three professional golfers with a score of 71.
Among the Amateurs, B. Vinodh, who currently resides in the UAE, delivered a stellar performance by shooting a solid 69, finishing two strokes under par. Vinod Weerasinghe, who had recently returned from USA maintained his strong form with an even-par round of 71. Uchitha Ranasinghe displayed a commendable one-over-gross round of 72. Reshan Algama showcased his potential with a 73, finishing two over par.
The leaderboard on the first day reflects a mix of established talent and promising youth, setting the stage for a thrilling competition over the next three days. Golf enthusiasts can look forward to more exciting action as the tournament progresses.
Day two promises more intense battles on the fairways as the competitors aim to improve their standings and secure a coveted spot in the Junior Thailand and Malaysia Junior teams. With the professionals leading the way and the amateurs showing their determination, this tournament is shaping up to be a memorable showcase of Sri Lanka’s golfing talent.
