Education Ministry clears Wesley College ruggerite Peiris can play

The Education Ministry and the Examinations Department have confirmed that Wesley College ruggerite R.A.S.H. Peiris is eligible and free to represent the college in the on-going Dialog Schools Rugby tournament.

This was following clarification received by the Examinations Department and the Schools’ Affairs Division of the Education Ministry as per the circular issued in 2014 by the Education Ministry (Circular No 26/2014) dated 28 July 2014.

The clearing of Peiris was following Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) informing Wesley College of a complaint received from the officials of Zahira College about the eligibility of Peiris to play for Wesley 1st XV Rugby team against Zahira on 14 June 2024.

Following the complaint, the SLSRFA requested Wesley College representatives to be present at an inquiry which was attended by Wesley College Principal Avanka Fernando, the Master in  Charge of Rugby and a legal representative on 20 June at Asoka Vidyalaya.

As per the request Wesley College submitted the relevant documents related to the request made by the SLSRFA Secretary which were forwarded by them to the respective officials at the Education Ministry for verification.
