The stage is set for two enthralling semi-final clashes in the SLC Major Twenty20 Inter-Club Tournament at the NCC grounds today, with defending champions CCC taking on SSC and giant-killer Kurunegala Youth CC meeting Army SC in the second game.
CCC and SSC scored facile wins in their quarter-finals, overcoming Ragama CC and Colts respectively, and a meeting of two of Colombo’s top clubs always generates a great deal of energy. Neither club has made any big impact in the tournament, but have shown they have the resources to eke out victories either through their batting or bowling.
Kurunegala Youth CC have a lot to prove that their win over much-fancied NCC is no flash in the pan. The way their bowlers dominated the NCC batting and defended a total of 155 shows that Army SC will have their hands full trying to contain them.Army SC are coming after scraping through to a six-run win over Negombo CC, and the experience of coming through successfully in a tight game should stand them in good stead to make things happen when the chips are down.
