Entries open for MBA Inter-Firm Team Championships

The Mercantile Badminton Association will be conducting their annual 36th MBA Inter-Firm Team Badminton Championships from 21 September to 26 October in Colombo.

The matches will be held at MBA Headquarters and the G.T. Jayasuriya Stadium, No 28, Malalasekera Mawatha Colombo 7 (Longden Place) with LINING [Flex Sportswear Ltd.] joining as the main sponsor and the Revival Physical Medicine Centre joining as the co-sponsor of the event.

This event features over 250 teams with over 1700 participants representing over 70 mercantile organisations. More than 25 national players will also be participating, making it one of the biggest events in the badminton calendar. Entry forms were released to all affiliate members of the MBA on 30 July, which are available at www.mba.lk.

The Championship will be conducted in eight divisions (A, B, C, D, E, F, and G and H) for Men’s and five divisions (A, B, C, and D and E) for Women’s. The mixed event will be conducted in all eight divisions (A, B, C, D, E, F, and G and H). There will also be a Veterans Event for Men and Women. Ages will be calculated as of 1 January 2019 for the Men’s Veteran (Over 40 years), Women’s Veteran (Over 35 years) and Masters (Over 50 Years).

A tie will consist of the following matches and be determined as follows.

Men’s Event - three Singles and two Doubles (best of five matches)

Women’s Event – two Singles and one Double (best of three matches)

Mixed Event – one Men’s Singles, one Women’s Singles and one Mixed Double (best of three matches)

Men’s / Women’s Veteran’s Event – two Singles and two Double (best of three matches)

Masters Event - two Singles and one Double (best of three matches)

Entries will be forwarded to the Tournament Secretary, Mercantile Badminton Association, MBA Headquarters and G.T. Jayasuriya Stadium, No 28, Malalasekera Mawatha Colombo-7.
