Eshan Pieris scored a stunning win in the Rotax Asia Max Challenge 2019 Round 3 at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia last week. It is his second karting win for the year after a three-month racing break from karting following wining Round 1 of the Rotax Max Asia Challenge.
Eshan gave excellent performances onboard his BirelArt Chassis driving under the colours of the RL Karting team of Malaysia guided by his manager and coach Aaron Lim.
Eshan started off by qualifying in 5th place in a 20 strong grid field and went on the finish heat 1 in 2nd place with the fastest lap. In Heat 2 he could not avoid an accident at the start and had to retire. Starting in 10th place in the Prefinal, Eshan drove brilliantly with skilled overtaking moves to finish in 2nd place therefore providing a 2nd place starting position for the final.
Always very competitive, in the final it only took a couple of laps before he overtook Amer Harris of DRM Motorsports to take the win by a comfortable margin.
As a member of the Malaysian RL karting team during 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, Eshan has represented Asia and excelled in countries such as France, Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand bringing fame to Sri Lanka. He also won a race in the Formula 3 Winter series 2019, and became the only Sri Lankan to win such an event, doing the country proud.
Eshan, the brand ambassador for David Pieris Racing & Leisure Ltd. (DPRL), a part of David Pieris Group of Companies, which owns and manages the Sri Lanka Karting Circuit (SLKC), the only international karting track in Sri Lanka, is currently preparing for his next race in Formula 3 Asia in Suzuka, Japan.
