Fresh from his Formula 3 win, Eshan Pieris, won Round 1 Rotax Max Asia Challenge in the DD2 senior category. Returned to karting for an off-season race, Eshan claimed pole position and went on to win the finals of this race at Shah Alam International Karting Circuit Malaysia.

Eshan participated in the elite DD2 Senior Category which fields the strongest drivers in the series. Driving for RL Karting, Eshan qualified on pole with a lap time of 53.312 seconds in a very close fight with all the top three contenders within 0.02 seconds of each other. He then took 2nd position in Heat 1, and thereafter went on to make clean sweep; winning Heat 2, Pre-finals and then sealing it with a comprehensive win in the Final.
Malaysia’s Calvin Wong took second place coming in 2 seconds behind Eshan with Putera Adam also from Malaysia taking third place. Championship winner 2018 Senna Noor finished in fourth place.
Eshan’s elated Manager, Aaron Lim said, “Eshan returned to karting to prepare for his single seater FIA Formula 3 Asian Championship. The plan is for him to do a few karting races just to keep fit and sharp and what a way to do it – by claiming an overall win in Round 1 of the Rotax Max Asia Challenge.”
Eshan added, “It was a good weekend and this win will help my confidence leading up to the main Formula 3 championship which starts in April. A big thank you to RL Karting for all the hard work they put in to the chassis and the engine.”
