Expolanka wins Mercantile Football Association “Knock-out” Tournament

Expolanka Holdings bagged their second Mercantile Football title for 2022, when they beat Fairfirst Insurance by 2 goals to Nil, in the Mercantile Football Association (MFA) “Knock-out” Tournament Final, concluded last week at the City League Grounds, Slave Island, Colombo 2. 

Aakib Faizer scored the first Goal in the 40th minute, as Expolanka led 1-Nil at half time.

The 2nd Goal came in the 50th Minute in the 2nd half scored by Veeraiya Dilushe.

Aakib Faizer was picked as the Best Player and Mohamed Imran as the Best Goal Keeper of the tournament (both from Expolanka Holdings)

Earlier on, Expolanka won the MFA League Division I title.

In the play off for the 3rd place, between the two losing Semi Finalist, played prior to the Final, HNB scored a convincing 3-1 win over Ceylinco General Insurance.  

At half time it was 1-all; HNB drew first blood, off a penalty kick, booted in by N.C. Abeysekera and the equalizer for Ceylinco was scored by G.A.S. Harshana. 

HNB’s other 2 Goals were scored by S. Gunawardena and N.C. Abeysekara.
