Fairfirst Insurance’s left-handed top order batsman Minod Bhanuka hogged the limelight when he registered the first double century in the ongoing 31st Singer-MCA Super Premier League 2024.
Bhanuka’s swashbuckling knock of 232 runs in 148 balls, inclusive of 20 sixes and 13 fours against CDB Finance, at the Bloomfield Grounds, single-handedly helped the defending league Champions, Fairfirst Insurance, to post 345-9 in 50 overs and win handsomely by 181 runs.
Super League debutants Maliban Biscuits remain the only unbeaten side, winning three matches on the trot, beating Fairfirst Insurance Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) XI and HNB.
Besides Bhanuka’s double ton, other notable batting performances came from Milinda Siriwardena from Maliban Biscuits (118* off 65 balls, 8 sixes, 7 fours v SLC XI) and Vimath Dimsara from SLC XI (101 off 99 balls, 3 sixes, 9 fours v Hayleys).
The best bowling came from Dushan Hemantha from Maliban Biscuits (37/5 in 8 overs v SLC XI).
