Fairfirst beats Allianz to win MCA “F” division 25 Over League final

A solid unbroken 5th wicket partnership between the experienced Thilina Massmulla (65 not out in 49 balls, inclusive of 01 six and 07 fours) and Chamika Gunasekera (30 not out in 26 balls inclusive of 04 fours) propelled Fairfirst Insurance to a fine 06 wickets win over Allianz Insurance in the 2nd Fairfirst Insurance Trophy - MCA “F” division 25 Over League Tournament Final 2019, concluded at the MCA grounds on Saturday 20 July.

Allianz Insurance, who won the toss and opted to bat, struggled for runs and put up a moderate 150 for 9 in 25 overs, helped by a 55 runs stand for the 05th wicket between Damian de Bayzer (50 in 68 balls, inclusive of 03 sixes and 01 four) and Ranga Dias (35 in 26 balls with 02 sixes and 02 fours); earlier on Allianz was in a spot of bother when they lost their first 04 wickets for 50 runs in 10 overs. 

Fairfirst Insurance, chasing 151 runs to win in 25 overs, lost both their openers cheaply, Vice-Captain, Dulip Silva (06) and Captain, Lakshan Perera (03). 

They got back on track via Thilina Massmulla batting at No. 4, assisted by Faizal Aron (20), Assel Sigara (17) and Chamika Gunasekera (30 not out) to win with 03 overs and 03 balls to spare (154 for 4 in 22.3 overs).

Match Referee, Sena Nandiweera had no hesitation on naming Thilina Massmulla from Fairfirst Insurance as his Man of the Match. 

The other three special awards, based on performances upto the Semi Finals, went to Chamika Deemantha Gunasekera from Fairfirst Insurance, best bowler (08 matches, 103 runs, 18 wickets); Chathura Chinthaka from MAS Kreeda, best batsman (06 innings, 425 runs with 01 double century 01 century and 01 half century) and Sathira Fernando from Brandix Essentials “B”, Man of the tournament (08 matches, 356 runs and 08 wickets).
