Fate of Singer League to be decided on 7 May

Bradby in doubt

Singer Schools Rugby League 2019 which was stopped halfway after round one due to the uncertain security situation in the country will be decided at a meeting on 7 May with the Sports Ministry, Defence Ministry and School and Sri Lanka Rugby officials taking part in a crucial meeting. This meeting was postponed twice will take place one day after the schools’ second term starts around the island.

The tournament that resumed its round two on 20 April had to be postponed indefinitely following the Easter bombings in the country that occurred a day later.

Meanwhile, a decision is yet to be taken on the 75th Bradby Shield, where the dates were fixed for 11 May (Kandy) and 25 May (Colombo). Options for both Trinity and Royal are to play the matches with the attendance of parents and invitees only to reduce the risk as one leg is possible. If this occurs, the Bradby too is likely to be changed to a later date.

Ministry of Education wants all sports activities to end by 30 June in order for the students to prepare for their Advanced Level examinations which will take place in August. (SJ)
