Isipathana College will be favoured to beat Wesley College in today’s encounter at Longdon Place. Isipathana only lost 20-14 to St. Peter’s College in a group encounter. They are very likely to occupy second position and progress to the second round.
The third and the fourth positions in this group will be fought out between Wesley and Zahira College.
St. Joseph’s College should face few issues in overcoming Kingswood in the other encounter which will be worked off at Longdon Place today. It will be an interesting battle between the two schools’ coaching staff led by the Ibrahim brothers Ronny (Kingswood College) and Nilfer (Joseph’s College).
St. Joseph’s are tipped to come away with a win and secure the number two position for the second round while the Kingswoodians were a yard slower and will finish third in their group.
Tomorrow’s Bradby encounter between Trinity and Royal will be a hotly contested one with the unbeaten Royal College holding the edge. However, when it comes to the Bradby, a different and close encounter is always expected. Nevertheless, Royal should still get home unbeaten and securing a place as the group leaders while Trinity will occupy fourth position and progress to round two.
The Peterites, who take on D.S. Senanayake, should continue their unbeaten run and finish at the top of their group while D.S. Senanayake will be counting the number of days until the Plate segment.
Zahira College too will be saved in the Cup thanks to the Dharmaraja College and D.S. Senanayake outfits. Meanwhile, the match between St. Anthony’s College and S. Thomas’ College on 24 April to be contested up in the hills will create no difference to the final outcome as both will be demoted to play in the Plate segment. (SJ)
