Five clubs record innings wins

Major Club Emerging 3-day tournament 

Five clubs Air Force SC, CCC, NCC, Nugegoda and Colts recorded innings wins in the Major Club Emerging 3-day tournament matches concluded yesterday.

Former Vidyaloka College left-arm leg-spinner 21-year-old Nadeera Ishan took a match bag of 10 wickets for 96 runs including figures of 7 for 68 in the second innings to bowl Air Force SC to a comprehensive innings and 151-run win over SSC at Katunayake. SSC were shot out for scores of 88 and 173 in reply to the Airmen’s total of 412-9 declared. 

It capped a fine all-round performance for Ishan who scored a defiant 66 off 132 balls with the bat to help rescue Air Force from a perilous 140-7 to their final total. Moveen Subasingha, the 21-year-old former all-rounder from Wesley College also had an excellent game scoring an unbeaten double century and capturing five wickets.

Minod Bhanuka, the Dambulla skipper who had a lean time with the bat in the National Super League Limited-Over struck form scoring 180 off 193 balls to star in CCC’s innings win over Navy SC.

NCC’s batting all-rounder 21-year-old Johanne de Zilva produced a brilliant performance (144 and match bag of seven wickets) in their defeat of Kurunegala YCC by an innings at the Welagedera Stadium, Kurunegala.

Left-arm spinner Kaumal Nanayakkara took a match bag of 11 wickets for 82 runs to spin Army SC to a seven-wicket win over Ace Capital CC at Panagoda.

There were also wins for Moors SC, Negombo CC, Nugegoda and Colts. (ST)
