Rocky Flintoff, the 16-year-old son of Andrew Flintoff, has been called up to England’s Under-19 squad to play Sri Lanka Under-19 in a three-match one-day international series later this month.
Flintoff, who made a century in his third appearance for Lancashire’s 2nd XI in April is part of a 16-man squad named for the series.
The team is led by Essex’s Luc Benkenstein, son of former South Africa international and current Lancashire Head Coach Dale Benkenstein.
Haydon Mustard, son of former England wicketkeeper Phil, and Farhan Ahmed, brother of England leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed, are also included.
Rocky Flintoff made his Lancashire 2nd XI debut against Yorkshire at the beginning of this season, alongside older brother Corey, shortly after his 16th birthday. Rocky made a half-century at Old Trafford in his second game against Durham and followed up with 116 against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.
His father Andrew Flintoff played 79 Tests, 141 one-day internationals and seven T20s for England between 1999 and 2009 and famously played a key role in England’s historic Ashes victory in 2005. He is currently part of England’s coaching staff at the T20 World Cup.
England Men Under-19s Coach Mike Yardy said, “We have selected an exciting squad for the series, with a blend of some players who are currently playing in the Vitality Blast and some younger players for whom it will be their first time in an Under-19s squad. As always, it’s a great opportunity for the players to perform in an England Under-19 shirt and to experience international cricket.”
The first Under-19 ODI is scheduled to take place at Chelmsford on 28 June.
ENGLAND MEN UNDER-19s ODI SQUAD: Luc Benkenstein (Essex – Captain), Farhan Ahmed (Nottinghamshire), Tazeem Ali (Warwickshire), Charlie Allison (Essex), Noah Cornwell (Middlesex), Rocky Flintoff (Lancashire), Keshana Fonseka (Lancashire), Eddie Jack (Hampshire), Dom Kelly (Hampshire), Freddie McCann (Nottinghamshire), Harry Moore (Derbyshire), Haydon Mustard (Durham), Thomas Rew (Somerset), Noah Thain (Essex), Raphael Weatherall (Northamptonshire), Theo Wylie (Warwickshire).
