The former owner of Lanka Premier League (LPL) franchise Dambulla Thunders, Tamim Rahman was further remanded till 7 June by the Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday.
The judge, also instructed to present to the court the entire telephone conversation in which the suspect had discussed match-fixing.
Rahman, a British citizen of Bangladesh origin, was arrested at the Katunayake Airport on 22 May, a day after the player auction for LPL 2024 was held, and was remanded until 31 May by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
He was arrested by officials of the Special Investigation Unit for the Prevention of Offences Relating to Sports at the Sports Ministry over allegations of match-fixing.
The Player auction was held under the auspices of the International Cricket Council’s Anti-Corruption team.
Following his arrest, IPG, the events rights partner of the LPL distanced itself from Rahman and terminated his contract with the franchise.
The fifth edition of the LPL is scheduled to be played from 1 to 21 July at three venues Kandy, Dambulla and Colombo.
