Sri Lankan youth para swimmer Galeena Basnayaka clinched a gold medals in girls’ F46 free style swimming at the Asian Youth Para Games currently underway in Bahrain.
Meanwhile Janani Wickramasinghe took away the Bronze medal in Girls T47 200m with a time of 29.36 seconds.
The Sri Lankans will represent in this year’s competition in athletics (05) and swimming (02).
Janani Dananjana (women’s T46 100m, Long Jump), Mohammad Safran (Men’s T46 100m, Long Jump), Jason Raja Jayawardana (Men’s F40 Shot Putt), Ravindu Chiranjaya (Men’s T11 100m, 200m, 400m) and Isuru Hansaka Udayarathna (Men’s T46 100m, 200m Long Jump) will compete in Athletics events while Navid Raheem and Galeena Themel Basnayake represent Sri Lanka in swimming events. Pansilu Prasan will join the team as the helper for Ravindu Chiyandaya.
Naveed Raheem will be the Team Captain.
Priyantha Peiris (Chef de Mission), Lasanthika Sriyakanthai (Lady Chaperone), Dr. Asanga Basnayake (Team Doctor/COVID Liaison Officer), Nalinda Senarath (Coach – Athletics), Dumeera Maduranga (Coach/Representative of Ministry of Education), Julian Bolling (Coach – Swimming) will join the contingent as officials.
The fourth edition of the Asian Youth Para Games will be held in Manama, Bahrain from 2-6 December.
An estimated 800 athletes under 23 years of age are expected to compete at the Games, which will be organised in conjunction with the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Bahrain with the support of the local government.
