The annual Sri Lanka Cyber Games (SLCG) eSports Championship will be returning this year on 8, 9 and 10 December at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Center. SLCG is organised by Gamer.LK, and powered by Dialog Gaming for the fifth year.
Year 2017 marks a milestone for this event, with SLCG celebrating its 10th consecutive championship being held this year. The Sri Lanka Cyber Games brings together the best cyber-athletes and competitive gamers from across the island to compete for the grand championship trophy – a coveted prize for every gamer in Sri Lanka.
SLCG has become the proving grounds for gamers to show off their skills, as it attracts over 3,000 participants across its 11+ game titles. Winning a title at SLCG secures a slot in the Sri Lankan eSports hall of fame, and establishes that you are the best in Sri Lanka.
Rooted in humble beginnings with a few hundred participants in 2008, SLCG has grown into a mega-event attracting over 20,000 visitors attending to be a part of the intense matches. eSports clan rivalries are settled in-game with live commentary, shown on large screens for thousands to watch and cheer their favorite clans. Scores of cyber-athletes don their clan jerseys to represent the team they belong to, and wear it with pride during matches and awards ceremonies.
Sri Lanka currently has six main eSports clans – n00b alliance, Phoenix Gaming, Xiphos eSports, Maximum eSports, Tech Morph and Wolfgang eSports. Phoenix Gaming has been enjoying a successful run over the past years by taking home the overall Championship trophy, with n00b alliance, Xiphos eSports and Tech Morph hot on their heels in the points table.
SLCG 2017 will be introducing a renowned e-Sports title in South East Asia named Special Force 2, a free-to-play, free-to-download massively multiplayer online game, with the partnership of Dialog Gaming and Asiasoft Online Ltd.
Further, SLCG will also feature well known online multiplayer gaming titles in Sri Lanka, namely Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Dota 2, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, Overwatch as well as single player gaming titles such as Injustice 2, FIFA 17, Project Cars and Tekken 7 as official titles. In addition, newer titles such as PUBG and Rainbow 6 are featured as promotional titles with Ingress, Clash Royale and Rider Rush by Honda being played as the mobile game titles at SLCG 2017.
SLCG is one of the first events to be recognised as a competitive ranked event by the Sri Lanka eSports Association (SLeSA).
