The Government will probe into the absence of the national flag or Sri Lanka branding on sportswear of the country’s team participating in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

In response to a question raised at the post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday, Cabinet Co-Spokesman and Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said he was unable to give an answer without getting in touch with the Minister concerned.

“The issue was brought up to our attention. It is something we all noticed and we will take serious note of it and the corrective measures if we have made some error in this regard,” he added.

When asked why three State Ministers who have no relation have joined Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa to watch the Olympics in Tokyo, Cabinet Spokesman justified saying they have joined with private funds.

“There are so many instances where this had happened even before. These State Ministers have gone with the sponsored funds of private firms. It has not caused any expense to the Government coffers,” Rambukwella said.

State Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Roshan Ranasinghe, State Minister of Aviation and Export Zones Development D.V. Chanaka, and State Minister of Rural and School Sports Infrastructure Improvement Thenuka Vidanagamage are those that have joined to watch the aOlympics in Tokyo.
