In a bid to make Sri Lanka a medal winning country in the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane, the Government announced implementation of a public-private collaboration aimed at shaping the skills of school-level athletes.

Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved the joint Cabinet proposal tabled by Education Minister Susil Premajayantha and Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Harin Fernando.

The move also expects to provide opportunities for talented athletes to participate in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles to gain experience and achieve a significant level of performance.

“This is a special initiative that will be rolled out with the support of private sector, civil societies, sports enthusiasts and companies. The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs have planned to implement this as a joint program,” Cabinet Co-Spokesman and Minister Bandula Gunawardena said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing on Tuesday.

He said special training and other necessary sports equipment can be provided for the school-level athletes via the initiative.
