Haroon Aslam was in cracking form when he made a bold comeback with a 4 under par round to end on number 5 position along with Chanaka Perera at the Sri Lanka Golf Ranking Tournament which continued in tandem on day two at the with Victoria Golf Resort (VGR) Course in Rajawella. K. Prabagran, the esteemed Sri Lankan Golf Pro, who demonstrated his top class form once again, maintaining a firm grip on the leaderboard with a commendable total score of 144. Chasing closely behind, the experienced N. Thangarjah secured the second position with a score of 146, keeping the competition intense.
However, the real surprise of the day came from Haroon Aslam, the young sensation studying and playing golf in the USA. With a remarkable 4 under par round, Aslam showcased his exceptional skills, making an astounding comeback from his disappointing 9 over par round on the previous day. This impressive turnaround not only earned him applause from spectators but also secured him the top spot on the amateur leaderboard, jointly with Chanaka Perera, both at a score of 144.
Not to be overshadowed, the highly-rated Sri Lankan golfing sensation, Reshan Algama who had an ordinary 10 over par round on day 1, came back with determination. He displayed great resilience and finesse, achieving a one over par round, bringing himself within striking range amongst the amateurs.
Amongst the other amateurs, G. Dhanaranjan claimed the third spot with a total score of 155, closely followed by Reshan Algama at 157, settling for fourth place. The competition among the amateurs is fierce, and their impressive performances are promising signs for the future of Sri Lankan golf.
As the players gear up for the subsequent rounds, all eyes are on Haroon Aslam, who has stolen the limelight with his extraordinary comeback and is now a force to be reckoned with in the amateur segment with K. Prabagran and Thangaraja will be expected to be at their best to maintain their lead in the coming 2 days.(SJ)
