Danushka Gunathilaka, the Sri Lanka top order batsman has joined the growing list of injuries to the team when he was ruled out of the T20 World Cup with a hamstring tear.
Earlier fast bowlers Dilshan Madushanka (quadriceps tear) and Dushmantha Chameera (torn left calf muscle) were ruled out of the tournament.
The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 has approved Kasun Rajitha as replacement for Chameera and travelling reserve Ashen Bandara as replacement for Gunathilaka. Rajitha is currently in Sri Lanka and will be travelling to Australia as soon as possible. Binura Fernando was earlier approved as replacement for Madushanka.
The spate injuries suffered by the Lankan players has been put down to the dip in temperatures at Geelong.
“The temperatures we're experiencing, the boys are not used to, It's certainly not Colombo. Even, I am cold, a little bit. You can't help it,” said head coach Chris Silverwood. “The preparation and facilities we were given, having arrived early, were superb. The boys have prepped the best we possibly can.” (ST)
