Sri Lanka Cricket has appointed former Sri Lanka cricketer and ‘A’ team coach Avishka Gunawardene as the new head coach of the Sri Lanka Under-19 cricket team.
He succeeds another former Sri Lanka cricketer Hashan Tillakaratne who was coach till the last Under-19 World Cup in 2020.
Another former cricketer Mahinda Halangoda has been appointed manager of the Under-19 team, a role he will take up until the end of the Under-19 World Cup.
Gunawardene’s contract will run till the end of December 2022.
His first task is to undertake the training and practices of the 26-member Under-19 squad and prepare it for the inbound tours, the Under-19 Asia Cup in December and the Under-19 World Cup in January. (ST)
