Gunawardene appointed head coach of Afghanistan cricket team

Former Sri Lanka cricketer and ‘A’ team coach Avishka Gunawardene has been appointed as the head coach of the Afghanistan cricket team.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board posted the appointment on their official Facebook that former left-hand batsman 44-year-old Avishka Gunawardene has been appointed as the national team’s coach who will also handle the batting while former Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait will be the team’s bowling coach.

Afghanistan are due to play three ODIs against Pakistan in Sri Lanka next month and later take part in the T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman.
