A newly built practice turf wicket at Gurukula College, which was funded by Sri Lanka Cricket, was declared open recently.

The opening of the turf wicket will help the Gurukula cricketers, who compete in the Division 1 Schools Tournament covering all age groups. This is also going to help the school’s Under-19 cricketers, who compete in the Under-19 Division 1 School Tournament, as the matches of the tournament are played only on turf wickets.

The turf wicket was opened in the presence of College Principal Dr. Kusala Fernando, SLC National Development Centre Head Kamal Dharmasiri and SLC’s National Cricket Operations Head Chinthaka Edirimanne.

Apart from the above officials, the school Cricket Master in Charge Anil Mangala Kumara, Overall Cricket Coach Rasika Dilesh, Sri Lanka Cricket Schools Cricket Coordinator Maurice Dela Zilwa and School Old Boys Association President Kapila Silva were present at the occasion.

The turf wicket was built at the school under the Turf Wicket Construction Program of Sri Lanka Cricket, an initiative of President Shammi Silva, who decided to provide centre or practice turf wickets to all schools playing Under-19 Division 1 cricket.
