HK-based Markowitz to officiate Kandy vs. CR encounter

Hong Kong-based referee Jonathan Markowitz will officiate the crunch game of the season between CR & FC and Kandy SC which will take place tomorrow, 4 January, at Longdon Place. Markowitz will also blow the CH & FC vs. Police SC encounter which will take place today.

Markowitz during the last 4 years had officiated games in USA, Scotland, England, New Zealand, Australia, Taipei and Israel.

A Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) senior official, speaking to Daily FT, said, “Local referees are good but we need more experience, and the ExCo at SLR stated that a blend of foreign referees will step up the local referees and their attitudes. We have taken the best decision and this game is a crunch one in round 1, we will continue to do so in the later games as well.”
