The 31st Singer–MCA Super Premier League 2024, featuring eight teams, which commenced on 4 October, came to an abrupt halt due to adverse weather conditions and is currently on hold.
The MCA Super Premier League is conducted in three stages: the “League”, the “Knock-out”, and the “T+20”. The first segment—the League stage, comprising 28 matches—began with great momentum on 4 October as HNB triumphed over the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Under-19 team by 76 runs at the Air Force grounds, Katunayake. However, continuous rainfall soon disrupted the tournament.
In another match held at the same venue on 8 October, Mode Engineering defeated BBK Partnership by 20 runs via the DLS method in a game reduced to 31 overs per side due to soggy ground conditions.
HNB’s Madawa Warnapura stole the spotlight, becoming the first centurion of the tournament with a remarkable 104 runs off 115 balls, including four sixes and seven fours, in the match against the SLC Under-19 team. Warnapura forged a vital 160-run partnership off 157 balls for the fourth wicket with Chamindu Wijesinghe, who contributed 77 runs from 89 balls, with two sixes and five fours. Their efforts helped HNB post a total of 256 for 7 in 50 overs. In response, the SLC U-19 team was bowled out for 180 in 43.3 overs, with Dellon Peiris delivering an outstanding bowling performance, taking 4 wickets for 35 runs from 10 overs.
