Celebrating 25 years since sponsoring the first Stableford Golf Tournament, HSBC gets ready to sponsor a weekend full of competitive golf with two back-to-back tournaments scheduled in Colombo from 25-27 September, in a bid to open up the game for more participation this year.
The HSBC 5-Club Stableford Golf Tournament is scheduled to be held on 25-27 September. HSBC’s exclusive Premier Golf Tournament will begin on 26 September at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC). Both events will conclude with an awards ceremony held on 27 September at the Royal Colombo Golf Club House.
Traditionally, HSBC Premier has held the tournament across different locations in the country, expanding the game to Nuwara Eliya, Kandy and Hambantota. This year’s tournaments are tipped to be more colourful, with an increasing number of golfers expected to participate in the Men’s A, B and C divisions as well as the Ladies’ and Seniors’ categories, showcasing their golfing skills and vying for the prestigious HSBC Premier Challenge Trophy.
To spark interest in junior golfers to gain access to the tournament at an early age, HSBC plans to include an exclusive activity for HSBC Premier Junior golfers this year, giving them the opportunity to showcase their golfing skills with an 18-hole stroke play on 25 September at 2 p.m. HSBC Premier Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the player with the highest Stableford points in any handicap group, including Seniors and Ladies.
The HSBC 5-Club Tournament is open to all golfers of the RCGC with an active valid club handicap, while the HSBC Premier Golf Tournament will be open to all HSBC Premier golfers in the Men’s A, B and C divisions as well as the Ladies’ and Seniors’ categories.
According to HSBC, golf remains at the heart of its sponsorship strategy globally. In Sri Lanka, HSBC sponsors three golf events – The HSBC 5 Club Golf Tournament (25 years), HSBC Premier Golf Tournament (eight years), and the HSBC Future Lions Program (Junior Golf), that introduced golf to over 700 youngsters in remote locations around the country in less than two years and produced 25 players that competed at the national level from academies representing Hambantota, Kilinochchi, Anuradhapura, Welisara, Kandy, Diyatalawa, Nuwara Eliya and Colombo.
