Heading back to the cool climes, the 10th annual HSBC Premier Golf tournament, the country’s most exclusive golf event is set to tee off on 25 February, at the picturesque Nuwara Eliya Golf Club (NEGC).
As a supporter of the sport, HSBC has been a pioneer in crafting unique golf experiences and an advocate for the development of golf at all skill levels for a number of years, both globally and locally.
The tournament has become an integral part of the annual Golf calendar in Sri Lanka, and more importantly an inclusive tournament as it provides an equal opportunity for all Golfers including Ladies and seniors to play off their individual handicap and win. Over the past decade, this tournament has grown in popularity and has become a much anticipated event for golf enthusiasts, and this year is expected to feature over 150 golfers, all HSBC Premier customers who will compete for the HSBC Premier Challenge Trophy.
Once again, the key highlight being that the two winners of the tournament will get the opportunity to be hosted in the UK to witness the world’s best golfers in action at The 151st Open in July 2023 to be held at Royal Liverpool for which HSBC is a patron.
This year, a variety of exciting activities to commemorate its 10th anniversary will be held, with a hole in one prize of Rs. 1 million Premier Rewards Points and Mastercard partnering to spin a twist to the customary pre-event which will build engagement among golfers on the evening of 24 February at the NEGC.
The pre-event - ‘Chip and Putt under the Stars’ is expected to feature two−members as a team, where the first player will be given the opportunity to take a shot off the fairways using a hybrid club of choice, whilst the second player will use the putter to hole in. The first team who holes in the putt will be adjudged the winner.
HSBC Premier customers who will be attending the event will also get to enjoy special rates on chartered flights to Nuwara Eliya with Cinnamon Air, and at the picturesque Grand Hotel, Nuwara Eliya.
HSBC Country Head of Wealth and Personal Banking James Rebert said: “We are excited to host the 10th annual Premier Golf Tournament and to provide our customers with an opportunity to enjoy a day at the picturesque Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, and also win the overall prize to watch The Open, in UK in 2023, whilst fostering camaraderie and building lasting relationships.
“We welcome all Golfers to join us and be part of this milestone. In the past 9 years, we have been able to offer the overall two winners a unique opportunity to witness WGC HSBC Champions in Shanghai and last year The 150th Open in the UK. We hope this year too; we will be able to see a competitive day of golf.”
HSBC Premier is also the proud sponsor of the HSBC Stableford Classic – 2023/24 for Ladies at the Royal Colombo Golf Club. Further enhancing the sport in Sri Lanka, HSBC recently launched the second edition of HSBC Future Lions Golf grassroots program in 2023.
