Hard fought win for Ladies over Bishop’s at hockey

Ladies College had to fight every inch of the way to beat Bishop’s College 1-0, in their Under-17 annual hockey encounter played on Saturday at Police Park, Bambalapitiya.

The winning goal was scored by Amanni Imran in the 25th minute of play of the first half with the help of her team’s attack line.

The Under-19 encounter that followed ended in a nil-all draw.

Under-17 special awards: Taliya de Fonseka from Ladies College was adjudged the Best Offensive Player, Maika Tennakoon from Bishop’s College was adjudged the Best Defensive Player and Pranali Britto from Ladies College was picked the Best Goalkeeper of the match.

The series tally from 2005 after 18 encounters, now stands at 9 wins in favour of Ladies College and 6 wins for Bishop’s College. In 2010, 2014 and 2022, they were declared joint winners. The 2020 encounter was not played.
