Harin promulgates landmark regulation of National Sports Associations

In a move to depoliticise sport in Sri Lanka, the Sports, Tourism, Lands and Youth Affairs Minister Harin Fernando yesterday signed a landmark Regulation identified as Regulation No. 1 of 2024.

It encompasses requisites of the 73 National Sports Associations registered under the Director General of Sports in keeping with the Sports Law Act No.25 of 1973 and has empowered the Director General to take action when necessary.

In a moving decision, Fernando has introduced the services of an Ombudsman who would listen to all grievances of all sports stakeholders and guide them in the best interests of the country’s sports.
