Haroon Aslam will defend his Presidents prize which he won in 2019
Sixteen-year-old Trinitian and golf sensation Haroon Aslam will defend his President’s prize while top-form golfer Chamara Abeyrathne will be back in Nuwara Eliya to defend his Captain Cup at the annual event which will be worked off at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club (NEGC) on 15 and 16 August.
The action packed weekend including the Club Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place that weekend at the prestige’s club in the Hills.
A record number of entries are expected at the annual Captain’s Cup and President’s Prize at NEGC with both tournaments are Board events with a long and rich history. The organising committee at NEGC will conduct these tournaments under strict health and safety guidelines. A maximum of 100 players will compete at these tournaments on each day and just a few more slots are available for registration.
Club Captain Priyanga Hapugalle speaking to Daily FT said: “The revised stroke indexes at NEGC will come in to play for the first time at these tournaments. All competitors will be tested on their skill and endurance over three days of golf with the challenging weather patterns also coming into play.”
In addition to these two main events, the Graham Sinclair Cup will take place on 14 August and the A.R. Aitken Cup which was inaugurated in 1911 will reward the best nett score over the following two days.
NEGC President Maj. Gen. Srinath Rajapakse said: “We welcome back our members after a long break for an exciting weekend of golf and want all to experience the many improvements we have made at NEGC during this period.” (SJ)
