Victoria Golf Resort Club Championship 2024

Top-class golfers, Haroon Aslam and Jade Jiggens, both shined at the Victoria Golf Resort Club Championship 2024, which concluded with exceptional performances over two thrilling days of golf at Rajawella recently.

The highlight of the championship was the Gents Club Champion title, which was clinched by former Trinitian Haroon Aslam with a remarkable score of 151 (77+74). Haroon’s consistent play, impressive shot-making, and ability to stay composed under pressure set him apart, earning him the coveted title and the admiration of his peers. 

What makes Haroon’s achievement even more impressive is his journey in golf. Currently studying and playing golf in the USA, Haroon has been balancing academics with his deep passion for the sport. His exposure to high-level competition in the US has allowed him to refine his game, gain valuable experience, and set his sights on even bigger goals. Haroon has expressed aspirations to turn professional and represent Sri Lanka on the global golfing stage, a dream he is determined to achieve through hard work and dedication. 

In the Ladies Club Champion category, Jade Jiggens emerged victorious with a total score of 179 (89+90). Jade’s consistent and steady performance over the two days showcased her skill and determination, cementing her place as a standout competitor. 

Other notable performances included Club Championship Ladies runner-up Elka Westenberg with a total of 185, and Kumar Danushan, who finished as Gents runner-up with a score of 155.

The Gents’ nett segment saw Manuel Toblars winning by taking a score of 142, while the runner-up was Lamidu Rainika with a score of 149.

In the Ladies segment, Thiru Jesudasan won with a score of 15, while Ladies nett runner-up was evergreen Niloo Jayatilake with a score of 187.

In the Stableford Ladies, it was youngster and former Asian International School student Thiumi Gunasekera who was in sparkling form who won the event with a score of 36, while the runner-up was Rudrani Devidas with 36. In the Stableford Gents, the winner was Shrimal Abeykoon with a score of 36, while Mahesh Wijerathna was runner-up with 35.

The Senior Ladies’ winner was Shirani Buffin, while Hanny Oude Maatman was runner-up. In the Gents’ Senior category, it was Mel Williams who won, with Mohamed Reza finishing as runner-up.
