Haroon Aslam was in consistent form the 4 days of golf to win the National Ranking Golf Championship at the Victoria Golf Resort (VGR) at Rajawella yesterday.
Golf enthusiasts were treated to an exhilarating display of skill and determination at the picturesque backdrop of the country club perfectly complemented the intense competition, as the tournament reached its climax on the final day at Rajawella.
Haroon, a student and golfer enhancing his craft in the USA, emerged as the undisputed champion. Showing remarkable maturity, talent, and determination, Haroon delivered a solid performance.
His consistent play throughout the 4 days of the tournament culminated in an impressive total score of 294, securing a thrilling victory by a commanding 7 strokes.
Despite their best efforts, Uchitha Ranasinghe and Chalitha Pushpika were unable to keep pace with Haroon’s relentless advance. Both players ended the tournament tied for second place with identical scores of 301 apiece. Though both their performances were commendable, they fell a yard short of challenging Haroon’s dominance.
Vijitha Bandara claimed the fourth position with a total score of 303, demonstrating his steady play over the course of the championship but his consistency in the 4 days dropped him down to number 4 in the end.
Following closely was the promising youngster, Yannik Kumara, who finished in 5th place with a score of 305. Yannik’s performance was below his high standard when he accounted for a win a week ago at the same course at the Mark Bostock event. He marked his brilliance of play in tough wet conditions, which indicates a bright future ahead for the young golfer in the coming tournaments.
All top five finishers will earn valuable world ranking points, further enhancing their standings on the global stage. This event was organised and conducted by Sri Lanka Golf (SLG). -(SJ)
