Sri Lanka Women Achini Kulasuriya appeals for a wicket against Thailand Women
|
Harshitha Samara-wickrama won her second successive Player of the Match award when she hit a career best 81 off 69 balls with 10 fours to steer Sri Lanka Women to a 49-run win over Thailand Women to record their second win of the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup tournament in Bangladesh yesterday.
Winning the toss Sri Lanka got off to a flying start posting 63 for the first wicket in nine overs with Harshitha being the dominant partner in the partnership with captain Chamari Athapaththu (12).
Harshitha added a further 61 for the third wicket with Nilakshi de Silva 39 (3 fours, 2 sixes) to see Sri Lanka post 156-5.
The Thai Women tried to make a fight of the contest being 77-2 in the 14th over. But Sri Lanka’s experienced bowling led by the slow medium deliveries of Achini Kulasuriya (2/19) and the spinners stifled the run chase keeping Thailand down to 107-5.
Sri Lanka have a short break before their next game against Malaysia on Saturday.
