Wanindu Hasaranga
Marcus Stoinis
Injuries seem to have taken its toll on the players of both teams Sri Lanka and Australia in the ongoing ODI series.
While Sri Lanka’s key spinner Wanindu Hasaranga is doubtful to play in the second ODI today at Pallekele, Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has been ruled out of the tour while spinner Aston Agar is unlikely to play any part in the rest of the ODI series.
Hasaranga has a groin strain on his left side and he is more or less likely to be rested. An MRI scan has been taken on his injury and the team management is awaiting the report on the extent of his injury.
Hasaranga suffered the injury while batting and it got further aggravated while fielding and bowling. He bowled his last few overs virtually on one leg.
Meanwhile Australia’s injury crisis has deepened with Stoinis being ruled out of the tour with a side strain he suffered while batting in the first ODI at Pallekele and Agar who hurt his side during the same match unlikely to play any further part in the ODI series.
Fast bowler Mitchell Starc is still sidelined with a finger injury so is Mitch Marsh struggling to be fit with a calf injury. Both are not expected to be available until the third ODI at the earliest.
Matthew Kuhnemann could make his international debut in today’s ODI having been pulled from the ongoing Australia ‘A’ four-day game against Sri Lanka ‘A’ at Hambantota with Travis Head also heading to Kandy. (ST)
