Air Force registered their second win this season
Havelocks Sports Club continued their unbeaten run but it was just enough to pull through a hard fought 21/17 win over Police SC at Police Park last weekend.
At the short breather Havies led 14/7.
Havies started off well by dominating proceedings in their forwards and three-quarter play in the initial half. Once in to the latter half Cops dominated the encounter at a point leading 17/14.
Police continued their good work from last week when they beat the Air Force outfit looked like pulling another one off. Rasith Silva drew first blood for the Cops through a dandy try with who rolled over the with Yohan Peiris converting to an early 7 to nothing lead for the hosts.
Police player Kasun was guilty of conceding a penalty-try for obstruction two Havies players move. The move was initiated by Umesh Madushan and Vimukthi Rahula. Havies got the second penalty try through Randitha Warunapura took the Park Club to breather in relief at 14/7 lead.
After the turn around Police narrowed the gap through a Yohan Peiris penalty. Rasith Silva try and Yohan penalty took the Cops in to a lead by 3 points. In the next event Havies fly half Sandesh Jayawickrema penalty kick hitting upright with the bounce his team mate Dinusha Ariyapala touched down.
Warunapura try and Sandesh conversion took the Park club in to safety and continue their winning form at 21/17. But the ending 2 to 3 minutes was a tough one as the Havies forwards did some great defensive work to keep the Cops not only away from scoring but also to continue their winning streak along with Kandy. Separately, Air Force Sports Club registered their second win in the Sri Lanka Rugby conducted Inter Club League rugby championship against the half fit Army Sports Club by 12/5 at Ratmalana.
At the short breather winners led 12/0.
Parakrama Ratnayake scored the first try for the Air Force outfit with ever reliable, fly-half Gayantha Iddamalgoda adding the extra 2 points. Air Force continued their good work through Ravindu Anjula try to increase the lead to 12 to nothing at the short breather.
After the turn around Army SC played with better coordination and defence was rock solid which kept the Air Force away from scoring. Sudaraka Dikkumbura touched down their only try of the match late in the second half but it was too little and too late for a recovery. Referee Isuru Perera. (SJ)
