In a closely fought encounter at Havelock Park, Havelock SC clinched a narrow 17/15 victory over Police SC in a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle. Havies scored their points through two tries, two conversions, and a solitary penalty while Police SC scored theirs through two tries, one conversion, and one penalty.
At the short breather, it was the Cops who led 8/3.
The match started with Havelock SC taking the lead through a penalty by their dependable kicker, Samuel Maduwantha. Shortly after, Park Club skipper and former Peterite Abdullah Faiz crossed the try line, demonstrating exceptional skill and composure, with Maduwantha adding the extras to give the home side an early advantage. Police SC responded with a powerful try from Hafiz Thabeeth, and Naveen Kanishka’s successful penalty narrowed the gap, keeping the game competitive.
Azmir Fajudeen extended Havelock’s lead with a well-executed try, again converted by the reliable Maduwantha. However, Police SC refused to back down. Primesh Danushka stormed over the try line, bringing them within striking distance. Yehan Bulathsinghala’s conversion brought the game to a tense climax, as Police SC trailed by just two points.
The final minutes saw relentless pressure from Police SC, but Havelock’s defence stood firm, repelling wave after wave of attack to seal the victory.
With this win, Havies continue their unbeaten run in the three outings played, while the Cops struggle without any wins so far.
