The Mastercard Inter Club Rugby Tournament will commence its Week 3 today when Sri Lanka Army host Sri Lions at Panagoda.
Army SC in their first game against Sri Lanka Police were leading 8/5 but due to heavy rain and bad light, the game was called off. The result of this game is yet to be announced by Sri Lanka Rugby. In their second game they were defeated by Kandy SC at Nittawela by a record 5/70.
Debutant, Sri Lions were at the receiving end, both losing out by 50 plus points but they were brave enough to play some cohesive rugby but lacked to pace out the entire 80 minutes which cost them the game.
This encounter could turn out to be a close affair at Panagoda.
Referee will be Raveen Alexander.
On 28 December there will be two games down for decision in Colombo. Both played under lights. In the first game, defending champions, CR will play their second home game when they host Navy SC at Longdon Place. The kick-off is scheduled at 6.30 p.m. CR after beating Sri Lions should have things in their own way to secure their second win. These two clubs will play their women’s encounter at 5 p.m., at the same venue.
Referee will be Sarath Madugalle.
Heavies will be all out to continue their unbeaten run when they lock horns with Police SC which should be a close game. Havies beat Navy and Air Force in their two games. The Police game against Army SC was called off after half time while they lost out to CH in their last game. Cops will be eager to get into winning ways.
Referee will be Gihan Yatawara.
On 29 December Kandy Sports Club will be in Colombo for the very first time when they meet CH and FC at Race Course. CH lost to Air Force and beat Police SC while Kandy SC were in supreme form when they beat both Sri Lions and Army SC by half a century plus scores.
Kandy holds the edge but probably go through some tough times but should have control in the end to continue their unbeaten run. Having the cream of national players such as, Nigel, Atari, Soori and Kavindu they are likely to use the speed in this outing.
Referee will be Ishanka Abeykoon.
