Hayleys defeats Stafford Motors to clinch MCA E division 25 over League Cricket

In a nail-biting finish, Hayleys B defended a score of 154 to defeat Stafford Motors by three runs and clinch the ‘DPGC Challenge Trophy’ in the final of the MCA E Division Cricket Tournament played at the MCA ground on Saturday.

Stafford Motors had to get 13 runs in the final over and the equation was brought down to four runs in the last ball but Dimantha Kalugalage bowling his first over of the game kept his cool and only conceded nine runs to clinch the win. Janitha Fernando scored 39 runs for Stafford Motors while Pavith Rathnayake captured five wickets for the victors.

Earlier in the morning Hayleys B electing to bat first posted 154 for the loss of seven wickets in their 25 overs. Dimantha Kalugalage, Maduranga Zoysa, Mihindu Ariyaratna and Mahesh Deepal posted 20 plus scores while Sujeewa Vishen was the pick of the bowlers picking up three wickets.

Pravith Ratnayake of Hayleys B was named man of the final while Bawantha Jayasinghe of Ceylinco Insurance was named the best batsman and man of the tournament. Tharaka Dinesh Ratnayake of Tee Jay Lanka was named the best bowler of the tournament.
